WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (K-drama 2017)

While-You-Were-Sleeping-2017

A supernatural romance about a woman who can see the future in her dreams, and a prosecutor who fights to stop these future events from happening. The heroine has dreams about unfortunate events that will happen to other people, and the hero is a prosecutor who runs around trying to prevent her tragic visions from coming true.

Plot – I like the originality of the story.  I believed that the Writer knew exactly what she wanted to do with this drama. The thread of the story-line, the inserts of flashbacks, the major twist, the justice system, the romance which was not overbearing and the everyday life conflicts have been linked and incorporated in well-paced timed.

Characters – I am not surprised how Lee Jong-Suk portrays his character as a rookie prosecutor. He’s always been typecast in this field, so acting wise, he’s still the same; good and effective, I have nothing to complain.

I was totally surprised by Bae Suzy. Honestly, I don’t buy her acting skills, but in this drama, she perfectly acted out of her character. Her story was complexly written because she has to deal with tragedy and fear, and in fairness, she absolutely has done a good job.

Jung Hae-In, my god, his character was loved by everyone and I love him too more than Lee and Suzy. He is charming and loyal second lead that you will never ever hate. He doesn’t have to act all the way because his smiles and innocent look compels his character with outstanding morals despite uncertainties.

Lee Sang-Yeob , the main villain who truly highlighted his character to the end.  Every action of his greediness and wickedness makes so much sense on how the story drives into perfection.

The cinematography was astounding. Music was quite good. The chemistry of the two main leads is refreshing. Character development was consistent.

Since this drama has the element of fantasy, there some plot holes that have never explained which serves as the ground of understanding where was the fantasy begins and how it will end.

Nevertheless, this drama is one of the best. It gives us the message about the choices we made in our lives and how it affects to people around us. It signifies also the lesson that help begets help. The best and easiest way to help is to be of help.

Verdict: 9/10
