ARE YOU HUMAN? (K-drama 2018)

Are_You_Human-P1

The drama tells of an android called Nam Shin III who must pretend to be the son of a rich family when the real Nam Shin falls into a coma. Nam Shin’s mother, Oh Ro Ra is a genius in brain technology and artificial intelligence (AI) so when her son, the real Nam Shin, is taken away from her at a young age, in her grief she creates an android that looks exactly like her son and has it grow up in the place of Nam Shin. But when Nam Shin, who is a third generation heir to the PK group, gets in an accident and is comatose, the android Nam Shin III must learn how to take his place.

In this drama series Actor, Seo Kang Joon was really amazing and I am pretty impressed with his acting. He simply pulls off both the roles of human and a robot with his remarkable talent to separate the characters and showed each of their own personalities. I could no longer think of anyone who can do the job better and captivating as he did.

The story of are you human shows the nature of humanity and how to be a decent human being.  I totally agree for the first few episodes was very interesting; how the robot created and its purpose, how it acted as humane while meeting and knowing the imperfection and greediness side of people. A machine turned into an ideal robot we wish, for the people to be just like him; warm and kind.

What disappoints me in this drama is the dream-like cheesy romance on the side. Yes, a human being could fall in love with the perfect robot he designed to be but putting their relationship deep into the story as if they can be together as a couple is really quite frustrating. I know the story’s a science-fiction and we are here in K-drama land, but hey, what is wrong in the world today?  Funny thing is some of the viewers were commenting how could a robot and human will have sex! Can’t just help to say, it was so unrelated relatioship I have ever watched.

Apart from the cheesy part, everything is totally fine. Just don’t be totally emotionally engage with our robot’s charm, look at the logic side of this drama and unfold the values that they are trying to depict.

Verdict: 8/10
