At first, it pissed me off when my colleagues speak with their own language when I am with them. I thought they are very disrespectful. You see, we have different nationalities in the workplace but I am the only one who is a Filipino, the rest of them have the same dialect. English is the most spoken language in Dubai, especially within the business community, and sometimes I just can’t fathom why I have to be left out from the conversation or from the information, but who knows, right?
Anyway, I got used to it as time passed by. I am no longer offended. I am on the safe side. I know from myself when I have to use my Filipino language and not. It’s just a matter of respect, consideration and professionalism.
Language barrier often troubles many and sometimes unintentionally leading to wrong interpretation of thoughts or conversations.

I also find it rude and disrespectful, and sometimes embarrassing.
