Kinds On The Slope (2018-Japanese movie)

Because of his father’s work, Kaoru Nishimi (Yuri Chinen) moves out to Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. He is the first-grade high school student with an introverted personality. He meets classmates Sentaro Kawabuchi (Taishi Nakagawa), who is labeled as a disorderly student, and Ritsuko Mukae (Nana Komatsu), who is a beautiful student. Kaoru Nishimi falls in love with beautiful Ritsuko Mukae. Kaoru Nishimi is talented with the piano, but he only plays classics. Due to Ritsuko Mukae, Kaoru Nishimi begins to play jazz.

This movie is great mixed with jazz music and the story of a beautiful friendship with life’s and relationship overcoming struggles.  I never expected high in this movie but I am quite surprised it wraps me with a warm message of no matter how mundane your days are, with good people around you can endure life’s tedium. And hey, don’t judge the book by its cover, as one of the characters highlighted on it.

It was refreshing for me to see new faces except for Nana Komatsu (I’m a fan), so acting-wise, they were all convincing as their characters blend together seamlessly. I am smitten by their music and honestly, I just started to appreciate jazz. How I wish I could play the piano and violin too.

Do I recommend this movie? of course, why not. Review 8/10.
