The long way to go home

Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) is the tallest man-made structure in the world, surpassing all the previous tallest structure ever built. The tower is situated on a man-made lake which is designed to wrap around the tower and to provide dramatic views of it.

This building bears the Emirates hope for restoring its reputation as an international business club in spite of all the concerning issues of its financial stability. It is a sign of hope and dream that came true. The opening ceremony yesterday was spectacular as what they have said, thousand of people in different nationalities gathered and waiting patiently for the event, particularly the FIREWORKS.

And I was there with my friends (Shiela, Maureen & Ella).

Shiela convinced me to witness the most awaiting one of a kind opening ceremony of this tallest building in the world.  I hate to walk off and go with the crowd but she assured me of only 30 minutes of our time to spend and we can go home.

Honestly, I didn’t exactly notice how stunning the firework was. While it was blasting from the building itself, bloating the craziness glowing colors up to the sky, we were feeling hopeless. We were stuck inside the Mall and couldn’t go out because of the crowd are unbearable to escape.

Obviously, the girls were very frustrated; unlike me, I can bear the disappointment. So with our take out hamburgers, fries and drinks we took a seat in one of the sideways and enjoyed our meal.

In the moment of nourishing our stomach, we talked about this and that. We laughed, we planned (basically to lie about this witnessing the fireworks), expressed with regrets and finally decided to go home.

I thought it would be the end of my misery. But going home is more difficult. I hate long walks. The train was full, and we could find both taxi and bus available. I was so exhausted. And thinking that I need to wake up 5:30 am the next day to prepare for work made me more so frustrated.

Time check:

11:00 pm -Still chasing taxis.

11:30pm – Inside the taxi. Fighting with the driver.

11:55 – At home.

12:30 – In my bed.

I want to emphasize something in this experience, to be fully aware of what we have forgotten.

  1. Be contented. (why we have to go inside the mall wherein we have a good view from outside)

  2. Be prepared. (like wear sleepers not with high heels)

  3. Get a car or go with someone has a car.

This picture will explain our disappointment.
